• While touring the residence, check stairwells and other less-travelled areas to see how well they are cleaned.  Ask to see the kitchen.
   
• Talk to residents, are they happy?
   
• Take part in complimentary lunches, ask about trial stays and costs.
   
• Ask to see menus, activity schedules and newsletters.
   
• If you have a pet, inquire if pets are allowed
